Frequently Asked Questions

What is Supportive Living?

A Supportive Living Facility is an affordable assisted living model administered by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services. The program was developed as an alternative to nursing homes and emphasizes personal choice, dignity, privacy and individuality. By combining apartment-style housing with personal care and other services, residents can live independently and take part in decision-making. Seniors of all incomes including those on Medicaid may qualify for residency at the Ivy.  To find out more about the State of Illinois Supportive Living program, click HERE.

What options are available for monthly payment?

Since The Ivy accepts both private pay and Medicaid, this answer may vary. Private pay residents are charged the room and board rate in relation to the size of the apartment chosen and the level of personal care services provided. A Medicaid-eligible resident must have income equal to or greater than the current SSI amount and must contribute all but $90 each month to The Ivy for room and board, meals and services. The $90 is to be kept by the resident as a personal allowance to use as the resident wishes. Please contact our Marketing Director for a more detailed explanation of fees or click HERE.

Does the Ivy require an entrance fee, application fee, last months rent or security deposit?

Unlike a traditional independent or assisted living community, the Ivy doesn’t require an entrance fee, application fee or last months rent. However, for private pay residents, we do require a refundable $1,500 security deposit.

What if I have money to pay privately now but run out of money later on?

This is one of the benefits of the Supportive Living Program and the reason why many of our residents choose our facility over a traditional Independent or Assisted Living Facility. If you run out of money, you may meet criteria that can make you eligible for public assistance. If so, your apartment, services and amenities will not change. Our business office will even assist you in applying for Medicaid. Please contact our Marketing Director for additional information.

Do you allow pets?

Yes, at the Ivy we understand your pets are part of your family. Indeed, we have an aquarium, aviary and some of our staff members even bring their dogs to work. In order to have a pet, a resident must be able to take care of their pet themselves and have a plan in place in case they can no longer care for their pet in the future. Also, a non-refundable pet deposit of $200.00 is required.

Are the apartments furnished?

Our apartments are unfurnished and we encourage our residents to bring their own furniture. This allows our residents the freedom to furnish and decorate their new home with their own personal style in mind. If you don’t have furniture or need additional items, we have resources to assist you.

Will someone assist me with the move-in?

We understand that the move into a senior living community can be a difficult and emotional transition. We are sensitive to this and our staff will help make the move as stress free as possible. We will help you unpack, decorate your apartment, orientate you to the facility and its procedures and introduce you to other residents and staff.

Does the Ivy offer parking?

Yes, the Ivy has visitor parking in our attached lot. If a resident would like a permanent parking space in this lot, we charge an additional $200 per month. However, there is also ample street parking in and around the building.
